Tailbone Pain
Question:
Has anyone ever experienced pain in the tailbone region during pregnancy? I don't think I have had any previous injury to it and this is my second pregnancy. I don't recall ever feeling this way when I was pregnant with my son. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Answer:

I have pain on my tailbone {kinda feels like it needs to be popped or something} What I have found that works is sitting on a hard surface with one leg on a wall or sofa or something and the other leg crossed over, this not only pops the talibone but it also brings great relief.

I had the worst tailbone pain when I was pregnant and also kept wondering if I might have injured it somehow - until I found out (through this newsgroup) that lots of others had the same thing! At some point (not sure when, but long before the end) it just disappeared on its own.

I had it too, during the first and second trimesters. I couldn't sit still for very long, particularly on hard chairs. During the end of the second trimester and to date through the third, the pain has moved to the front (ligament pain). I'm just chalking it up to this pregnancy being unique. My sister has 4 kids and didn't have any pelvic pains with the first 3, but had it awfully with the 4th. There seems to be no apparent reason.

The nervous system is strange. It is very common for internal pains to manifest themselves as external pains in other parts of the body. For example, people having a heart attack very often feel a pain in their left arm. The explanation is that the same nerve serves the heart and the left arm. Same is true of the tailbone and the abdominal cavity.

If (and I'm guessing here) it just feels like an ache, then here is probably nothing wrong with your tailbone. On the other hand, if the pain is severe, see a doctor. There may be something wrong internally.
