Symptom Of Sciatic Nerve Pain
Question:
Can pain in the sides of the lower rib cage be due to sciatica? I have recently developed this and it's only good when I rest. Is this one of the symptoms of sciatica?

Answer:

Probably not because the sciatic nerve in the primary nerve of the leg. The nerve is a branch of the network in the pelvis (sacral plexus) and is formed from several lumbar and spinal nerves. From the sacral plexus, the sciatic nerve passes below the sacroiliac joint at the back of the pelvis near the sacrum and backward to the buttock. From here, it passes behind the hip joint and runs down the back of the thigh.

Since the rib cage is far above the pelvis, it is unlikely that the sciatic nerve could cause pain in that area. This is not the sciatic nerve pain. Sciaticia runs from the lumbar area to the buttocks and down the leg to the foot.
