Stomach And Back Pain?
Question:
I am on ceftin and I have gotten bad stomach aches throughout the day accompanied by back pain... could this be related? does this sound like a herx or medicine/stomach irritation related? can your stomach ache be related to your back ache?

Answer:

Not sure if stomach & back pains are related, but a couple of thoughts come to mind. I remember reading that if taking Doxy (probably true of all abxs), it's important to take with food & at least a FULL 8 ozs of water - to reduce damage to liver. Also, read to take milk thistle just before meals. Helps to support liver.

DGL (deglycerinated licorice - important, because this form does NOT raise blood pressure) chewables - chewed very, very slowly on completely empty stomach at least 30 min. before each meal (3 times per day) actually rebuilt my daughter's stomach lining.

In my daughter's case, it was from anti-inflammatory drugs - not abxs, but others have written & said docs have told them abxs have destroyed stomach lining. This is what worked for us. Didn't take too long either. Her stomach was completely symptom free after about 1 wk & the pain reduced considerably almost immediately.

I'm not a doc, but have read this info in books written by docs. Any antibiotic taken orally can rip up your stomach. I have nasty gastritis from steroids and 6 months of oral antibiotics. Ceftin and Biaxin and Doxy are all nasty on our poor guts. I have found that DGL (Deglycerrized Licorice) works excellent. Also, a product called Gastric Complex from Tyler Encapsulations is awesome too, it heals my stomach up when it flares in a few days, Gaviscon over the counter is also real good for emergencies, just make sure you can take an antacid with your antibiotics.
