Severe Back Pain
Question:
I have been having severe back pain for a while now. I first thought is its my mattress, so I changed it and got Simmons beautyrest which I believe is a good one. But even now I am having those back pain when I wake up every morning. I do not know why?

Is it my sleeping posture? But then I have been sleeping this way for 20 years now.

Answer:

I use to have that. Had to sleep with a pillow between my legs and also elevate my legs when sleeping on my back. My back pain was lower back type.

Well, i use to *have* to get out of bed because in the morning the pain was there although it was relieved when i got up.

I recently stiffened up my bed, (a piece of cardboard under a 4" memory foam mattress and the matress, and I haven't had that problem any more.

Its a little different sleeping on a firmer surface and I turn a little more, but my spine is aligned and I feel just fine in the mornings! I haven't had that sciatic nerve issue either that could keep me up half the night.

I too have severe back pain at night, and I have spent a fortune in trying to find the cause and the cure. I have had blood tests, xrays, bone scans, and MRIs. I have also had an EMG - man, is that a pain in the @ss! I have seen several doctors of different specialties. I have had "prolotherapy" three times, and now, as I am writing this reply, I am hooked up to an electric muscle stimulator that is sending electric shocks into my muscles through 8 adhesive pads - no fun at all. I am also taking various pain medications. This is all quite expensive and time consuming, and yet the pain persists.

There are so many causes of back pain that it is hit-and-miss in trying to stop it. What works for one person, may not work for another.
