Any Sciatica Pain Relief?
Question:
I am suffering from sciatica, and it seems to have worsened. I was up all night in so much pain. Pain shooting down my right leg and it has continued on all morning. (Usually it goes away once I start moving around). Now I have pain in my leg socket area, also. Does anyone else suffer from this...and if so what do you do for relief?

Answer:

I spent my second trimester in tears from the pain you describe. I was told it would be that way until I deliver. But take heart, it stopped. I believe three factors helped me but the first one for me was 80% I believe. At night I would park myself on the sofa after work and I would not move because of the pain. The more it hurt, the more I sat there. The pain left when I bought a La-Z-Boy recliner to prepare for rocking and nursing. When I started to park my butt in the recliner, the back support shifted my weight or something and the pain went away.

Second, I have been seeing a chiropractor. He helped some, but he was treating symptoms not the cause. Third, swimming. Get in a pool and start marching and goose stepping in the shallow end of the pool. It will strengthen your back muscles that you've been avoiding, while taking pressure off the parts that hurt so much.

Your insurance may pay for physical therapy. I had this pain with my first two pregnancies (and got a twinge yesterday ... this is my 3rd pregnancy). I just suffered the first time (it was transient), but with the second I asked my OB if there was anything I could do. She wrote me a prescription for 6 sessions of physical therapy which helped immensely!
