Sciatic Leg Pain
Question:
I am experienceing sciatica leg pain from what I believe is caused by a muscle spasm in buttocks in one leg only. Very nasty pain in the mornings, when I first get up, after I move around for a while I don't feel to bad. It is a little painful to sit for long periods of time especially if I don't watch my posture. I think I pulled a muscle in my lower back. I went to a chiropractor for xrays no disc bulging had 9 adjustments to spine and my back feels good, I just can't shake this muscle spasm and leg discomfort. Anybody had this and how long did it last? Any home remedys?

Answer:

The only study I have seen on length of Sciatica, says that 90% of uncomplicated cases will resolve themselves in 2 years. Other studies that I am familiar with show that 84% of complicated cases respond favorably to chiropractic care, some techniques are better than others. If you have other associated symptoms like paralysis of your lower leg, or foot drop, and it doesn't respond quickly (10 days or so) to chiropractic treatment you should see a neurologist or neurosurgeon.

Sounds like you experienced the typical problem of too much exertion causing swelling, causing pressure on you sciatic nerve. Did you receive ultrasound with your adjustments? It helps a lot to reduce the edema deep near and in the joint. When the joint is moved, like in walking, it works the fluid out of the joint, reducing the pain.
