Waterbeds vs Sciatica/Back Pain?
Question:
I seem to be experiencing alot of back pain lately. The worst part for me is a total lack of sleep. After two months of this, my longest sleep has been 2.5 hours. Last night I OD'd on vicadin, iboprofen, sleeping pills, and muscle relaxers, only to wake in 90 minutes, and pace the floor in pain. I have a waterbed which has always been wonderful, but i wonder now if it's time to change? I've tried all the pillows and suggested positions, etc. Any other recommendations?

Answer:

I have have severe back and leg pain for approx. 10 years. I have had my waterbed for 16 years. I need to adjust the firmness at times, but I can't find relief anywhere else(except the pool).Perhaps your pre-pain firmness is not what you need now. Try draining some if it's real filled, or add more water, if it's kind of soft. Also don't forget to "burp" out the air. If mine starts getting uncomfortable I know it's time to "burp".I can't travel because I can't sleep at all on a regular mattress. I'm going to try an air mattress on my next trip and see if that helps until I can get back to my waterbed.
