| Neurontin for low back pain? |
|
Question:
would be very appreciative of some quick responses to this question:
Is it wise to run with an injured back when you've a race in 2 weeks time?
I injured my lower back while doing weights on Wednesday. I didn't feel
anything until Thursday and it was worse Friday. It was so bad, it took me
ages Friday morning to put my socks on.
I've always had the theory that if in doubt about whether or not to run,
you should get out there and run and see how you feel, so that's what I
did, Friday night. I felt O.K. at the start, so I went ahead with my speed
session. However, I underperformed and it could have been due to the back
problem. Also, I ran with a back support belt - was that a good idea?
Saturday (today), the back feels a bit better. I did a short run which
didn't feel as easy as it normally does.
With a 10k coming on Sunday 28th Sep,
should I be running or should I let
the back heal? Would running slow the
rate of healing of a back injury?
Answer:
I would let my back heal and start a slow routine to build dtrength again. If it were me, I would skip the next run. There will always be another one to sign up for.
