Pregnancy and Sciatica Pain
Question:
Is 12 weeks too early to be experiencing sciatic nerve pain? Or is it something else I might need to have checked out? All the pg books I have talk about it in conjunction with the 3rd trimester. They all also say to lie down on the opposite side to ease pain, but I feel it most at work--no lying down there! Anyone have any tips on how to ease this?

Answer:

felt it at 16 weeks. I felt it most often while sitting, especially in the car. I found a pillow to be helpful. Also, try not to bend forward at the waist when picking something up. That seems to aggravate it also. An ice pack while laying down can give some relief also.

With both this pregnancy and my first, I felt it around 13 weeks. I figured it was because of the progesterone supplementation "relaxing" everything! It went away, only to return around week 27 with both this pregnancy and with my son!

I went to see a physiotherapist about it and she advised stretching exercises. I found that if I lay down it just got worse and I couldn't get up! I also found some of my yoga moves (this pregnancy) really aggrevated it - anything where I had my knee out to the side.
