| Lower back, right leg pain, it even hurts to sneeze... |
|
Question:
I drive a car which I feel I'm too tall
for and have always worn a credit card-filled
wallet in my right back pocket. I could
always feel a slight pain in my lower
back when getting in and out of my car,
but back in October, things went haywire.
It got to the point where I felt pain in my lower back/butt, along
my right leg, just above the knee. It'd hurt when I'd toss and turn
in my sleep, sitting down would practically hurt. Any time I'd
get out of my car, it would hurt tremendously for about 5 minutes
until I was standing for a while all the pain was in in the right.
Took Aleve which helped a week or two later and then saw a doctor
who felt I had irritated a nerve as a result of my car and the wallet.
He put me on Naproxen and after taking it for about 3 weeks, felt
about 90% better.
When I ran out of the anti-inflammatory drug for a
couple of days and went back on it, things got worse again, and here
we are about 3 months later and I'm still in a bit of pain. Sitting
down on most chairs doesn't necessarily hurt, but feels very
uncomfortable from my right "butt" to right above my right knee.
If I'm sitting and I cough or sneeze, I can feel a sharp pain often
at my lower back. Since October, I've been limping slightly when
I walk (on my right leg).
Based on this info, can anybody guess what could be wrong? Would
seeing a chiropractor help? I'm guessing if it is a nerve thing,
the drug is only hiding the problem and sitting down, or putting
pressure in that area is bringing the pain back.
Sleeping or laying down I feel great... I don't want
to stay on that drug forever as I know it can cause kidney or
liver damage. Thanks for any input you can provide!
Answer:
I have hayfever and when ever the pollen is in the air my back acts up
to. A change in the weather make it hurt too. They told me at pt to take
the wallet out of my back pocket and that help a little.
Your
sciatic nerve can go right through the muscle and if it is being
impinged by it it can give you those symptoms. I would 1) move my
wallet to a front pocket when siting 2) take a over the counter
antiinflamitory like ibuprophen 3) see a good lisenced Massage
therapist and get some stretches and conective tissue therapy.
