| Neck And Back Pain |
|
Question:
Have had Crohn's Disease since 1978. Have suffered with increasing neck and back
pain for the last four years. Wonder if this is CD related. Have been
diagnosed with myofascial disorder and have been doing physical therapy,
therapuetic massage, daily stretching for several months and continue to
have really bad days.
Have lost 15 ibs, because of lack of appetite
from being in pain. Am taking pentasa and wonder if it could be
related. Most meds do not help much including valium and flexaril.
Taking a lot of motrin which is scary with a hx of a GI bleed.
Afraid
of being diagnosed with Fibromayalgia, because I also have had a sleep
disorder. Does any one else out there have these problems. My sed.
rate is normal. My MRI is normal, so the doctors don't seem to be doing
much for me. I am going back to the physical rehab doctor next week to
see what to do next. Any input is welcome.
Answer:
I have back, joint and muscle
pain, all ibd related. I have been on nambumetol which is pretty tummy
safe and I am just attempting to go without it and take aleve only when I
am in really bad pain. Walking daily seems to alleviate some of the
pain.
I take a small amount of xanax for sleep - I started it when my dad died
and things were so upsetting round here and it seems to really
help,its similar to valium.
I take asacol, cipro and 6mp for the ibd,
ask for pain medication. Another good one for pain which helps with sleep is
elavil in very small amounts(in large dosage its for depression). Its
been used for migraine and various physical pain for a while. I was on
that for the joint/muscle pain for a while but after a year I guess I
became immune to it. Hot baths at night help with sleeping and pain as
well.
Check with your doc on enteropathic arthritis. typically likes to effect
the back and lower. however i have it in my elbows also, so not a hard and
fast rule.
there is a vast range of nsaid out there, some are pretty tummy safe, some
not, depends. i have found some that work for me. check w/your doc. and,
oh, btw, you don't need a hi sed rate or "active" inflammation to have
joint/tendon pain.
Could you have injured your neck and back? Maybe a dr like a neurologist
and/or arthritis could get to the bottom of this. I am taking pentasa also
but I don't have this problem like you say. I do get pain but it's either
when I am standing too long and in my lower back.
