| Mind Over Pain |
|
Question:
Did anyone else watch the Discovery Channel and see the show
Extreme Senses, "Touch".
On the subject of mind over pain there was some interesting entertainment.
I have been through Biofeedback training at a Pain Management Center but I
haven't had much luck with going to my happy place without dragging my pain
along with me. Does anybody have any advice on getting this method to work
effectively?
Answer:
The only documented case of this working for someone with severe pain I hav
e come across is in a book by Reynolds Price, called "A Whole New Life" or
something close to that.
Price is an award winning novelist, but this is a non-fiction book about
his struggle with a severe neuropathic disease. I don't remember the
specifics, but it was a tumor or such and caused complete disability and
severe pain.
After years of methadone and narcolepsy, he found a place in his mind where
he accepts the pain.
All the treatments you mentioned failed for me.
As for mind over pain , the closest ive come to that is keeping my self
intellectually and socially occupied . it seems to distract me from the
pain, and a good support group helps.
