Terrible lower back pain - can't think of a cause
Question:
About 1 week ago I developed terrible back pain and have no idea what is causing it. It radiates from my lower right side to my upper left side. I've had the lower right back pain for about 5-7 years but it usually only bothers me if I've been sitting in a hard chair for a long time or if I've stayed awake for 24hrs. It also was never really serious to the point where I'd have to take pain medication. But lately, every single day for the past week my back has been KILLING me. Four regular strength advil do absolutely nothing for me.

I can't think of anything I've done that would cause this. I make sure I bend over and lift things properly. I wasn't in an accident or involved in any athletic activity or pulled a muscle. I'm 20 years old and in ok shape i guess. I have obstructive sleep apnea and delayed sleep phase syndrome and haven't been sleeping on a normal schedule for a month. I get about 3-5 hrs of sleep before I go to work then a few hrs after I come home I take a 2-3 hr nap. Then I'm up for a few hrs before I go back to sleep and then get up for work again. This is only happening because I've had to take a job where I work from 8am-4pm and this is when I would normally sleep due to my sleep disorders.

1) Is it possible my lack of sleep is causing the back pain or is it more likely to be something else?

2)How long should I wait before I see a doctor?

3)What kind of doctor should I see?
