Back pain and stomach pain
Question:
I have ulcerative colitis. My doctor had me on medicine but since this came along plus I was sick for a while they took me off. I have been off now for about two weeks. Meanwhile I had a high blood count of 113, when they said you should only have 20. It is inflammation, he said it will be ok. I just don't understand why I have such bad lower back pain along with stomach pain? what do you think?

Answer:

The back pain could be arthritis, sitting to long, picking something up the wrong way, or maybe radiating from the front. There could be so many reasons but with your inflamation and no meds I bet it is from that. Taking you off all meds when you are inflamed is crazy in my opinion and I wouldn't put up with it. Some medications cause back pain and can irritate your stomach causing pain.

I have UC too, or did before I underwent surgery a few months ago. I developed excruciating back pain from compressed vertebrae due to high doses of prednisone I was taking for the illness. I have also heard that people can get severe lower back pain, either from the illness itself or from medications, I'm not quite sure. But back pain is common, for many reasons. You should see a doctor and find out the source of the back pain.
