Lower Back Pain Problems And Early Pregnancy?
Question:
Is it common to experience lower back and leg pain in early pregnancy? I'm 7 wks LMP, and on and off for the past day or so, I've been having an achy pain in my lower right back that sometimes radiates down past my hip. Today its actually pretty consistent.

I have a tipped uterus, could it be putting pressure on some nerve at this point? Is this likely to be a recurring symptom, or will it clear up as the baby grows?

Answer:

My uterus is normally retroverted (tipped backwards) and I had much the same problem. I went to a physical therapist and we found that my sacrum was twisted out of its normal position. The only theory we have is that the tugging of the uterus on the ligaments pulled on something in my pelvis to allow things to slip out of place. Physical therapy and exercises are doing good things for my back.

Well, your uterus has to tip forwards in order for the baby to have enough room to grow, which may be what causes the problem in the first place. It might be a good idea to have someone knowledgeable check out your lower back and pelvis and make sure everything is where it ought to be, spine-wise.

If something is slipping, you can start early with strengthening everything and hopefully avoid being incapacitated later on (when you have a 20 lb belly putting strain on an unhappy spine).
