| Question about strange fibromyalgia neck pain |
|
Question:
I'm asking this for my mom who has fibromyalgia and is looking to see if
anyone else has had this problem. She has been experiencing major pain (Rx
meds kinda help) under her shoulder blade but it seems really different from
her other "fibro" pain. The shoulder pain does not get worse with pressure,
that is the only thing that seems to help - strong pressure. She says this
pain is about halfway between her spine and her arm, under her shoulder
blade. It does not radiate anywhere.
Her docs say it is from the fibromyalgia. She has had acupuncture,
chiropractic treatments, pressure point injections x 2 - nothing phases it.
She doesn't think that it is from the fibro but would like to know if anyone
else has experienced fibro pain like she describes.
Answer:
Sounds like myofascial pain - trigger points - I have tons of those where the
more pressure the better. It gets all bound up in there - a good massage
therapist can get those out and it is a big relief. All over massage will give
energy too - I'm not a masseuse - I just really believe in them - more than a
chiropractor. I have done both - and physical therapy and still have better
luck with massage. Try rubbing it out for her - ice and heat might help.
I have that pain and the docs think it is a root nerve problem at C4 or 6
(depending on which report you read) in my neck. This pain is sharp and
localized. I've had trigger point injections, massage, acupuncture and it won't
budge - my neck is referring the pain to that area.
