Chronic back pain - lower back and hips
Question:
I am suffering from chronic back pain since 5 years. The pain gets worse when I am stressed. A doctor diagnosed a protruding disc between L5 and S1 and muscular insatability around the hips. This is sometimes so bad that I can hardly walk. I have been to an osteopath which always helped for a week and I am currently going to a physiotherapist. However, as I am having problems since 3 month in a row now I am getting desperate. I just can't enjoy life at the moment at all.

Any help will be massively appreciated. I wonder if besides the physical side there is a connection to a food allergy. I feel I have to eat regularly at present. Any alternative medicine advise would be appreciated as well.

Answer:

Regarding your food query, you can test this by removing foods one at a time. Alcohol and coffee are also probably good to get rid of (they tend to cause tension which makes the pain worse). I find I can drink two cups of coffee but not three.

The World Health Organization and several US medical groups (and I've seen one British study as well) all say that the best medicine for chronic pain is opiates. Discuss this with your doctor.

Also try a web search on "chronic pain". Try narrowing your search to "chronic pain medications" or maybe even "chronic pain treatment".
