Chronic Neck Pain
Question:
was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on who to see or what to do? Four months ago,I awoke with the entire world spinning, neck pain, sinuses stuffed, breathing problems, stuffed ears, itchy eyes, and ringing in my ears. I immediately thought that I had an infection and went to my doctor who sent me to an ENT. All tests came back negative and I received Microser, an Antivert drug, to help me with the dizziness. All the medicine made me do was put me to sleep and made it impossible to do anything. After about a month of not helping I went to another doctor who said pretty much the same things. I went to a chiropractor, which I have been doing for years after a car accident, and some of the symptoms get a little better, though I still have some major problems.

I have felt light headed, as well. I went to my cardiologist and he said it was not my heart and suggested a closer look at my lungs. I went to a specialist and discovered that my entire respritory system was inflammed. This includes my nose, throat, sinuses, and lungs. The problem of light headedness is do to the lack of blood getting to my brain due to the inflammation. I have been taking all types of drugs for this. While making me feel a little better to do things, I am still taking many drugs with little affect on solving the problem. I went to a physical therapist and now I am trying a Osteopath for my neck.

I have had all types of blood test, scans, allergy tests with all of them coming up negative. Is it possible that all these symptoms are coming from my neck? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Answer:

I have chronic neck and back pain on the right side, rarely on the left. I had a myofascial injury, soft tissue damamge, almost 5 years ago. I am also a Occuapational Therapy Assistant. Unfortunately, there is no "cure" for chronic back and neck pain, and the only advice that I can give to people is exercise. Do to my injury I lost use of my right arm for nearly 7 months and still have recurrences of numbness in it.

I have been told that my sypmtoms will never go away, they will just be eleviated by ecercise, rest, and a good diet. I neglected this advise for the first two years, and then figured it out, they were right. It sounds like you may have myofascial pain, some message therapists specialize in release techniques, otherwise exercise is your best course of action. If you feel you need the neurological tests, you should do that, though, myfascial pain usually does not show on any testing done ie. MRI
