| Chest and Back Pain When Breathing Heavy |
|
Question:
I have been working out for some time and love to train hard. About two
months ago I had a bad cold and was given antibiotics. When the cold
became better I went back to the gym to strart training. Ever since
that cold I find that when I take a deep breath and exhale I feel a pain
in my chest or the left side of my back.
Also when I work out I am very
short of breath. I can only lift at 75% of what I could do before this
cold and the antibiotics. I have gone to the doctor, but have been told
that I am O.K. Has anyone ever experienced this? If there are any
doctors who know what could be wrong I would appreciate a response.
Some people I know say that I am stressed. Help! I need some answers or
responses from those who have experienced this before.
Answer:
Have you ever had pneumonia where you actually had scar tissue
build up in your lungs from the infection. If not, you might still have some
remnant of an upper respiratory infection. Did you finish your antibiotics according to schedule
and rest, etc. sufficiently?
I haven't experienced what you're having, but your friends
who say you're stressed are probably telling you something
you need to know. Take a couple weeks off from workouts, do
something different for a change, something that you'll
enjoy, but that is relaxing. From the sound of it, you're
having attacks of anxiety or panic.
When you go back to the
gym take it easy for a while. You'll have lost some
strength, probably, but don't get crazy about that; it will
come back in time.
