Tailbone Pain
Question:
What causes tailbone pain? It's very difficult to sit for too long on most chairs. I have learned to take a little pillow with me if I am going to be sitting long, even in the car.

Answer:

I think it is a common pain site with fibro. What cause it? What causes all our pain! Our damaged muscles, I assume. I also have back and leg pain which also goes down into my tailbone. Usually when I get tailbone pain like this (where it hurts my hip sockets and shoots down my leg) it's always something I did a week before. Never something I can put my finger on 'that' moment.

Did you ever fall on your tail bone? I've noticed that anything that I have damaged badly over the years hurts. I fell off my bicycle when I was a kid. I was riding down a drive way and I hit some loose sand, the bike went out from under me and I stradled the curb.

Actually, tailbone pain can occur much like arthritis pain occurs after a fracture. Many people have broken their coccyx at some time or other -- women can even break theirs in childbirth. If you've ever had a broken bone, you may experience pain there when the weather changes.

Other things that may have caused a fractured coccyx such as falling down and landing on your butt (ice, stairs, etc.).
