Cause Of Sciatic Pain
Question:
Can someone please provide me with information/references regarding sciatic nerve pain, causes and treatments?

Answer:

Sciatic pain is often caused by the piriformis muscle spasming and choking the sciatic nerve which passes through that muscle. There are two ways that I know of to treat the problem. One is called injection therapy. This is where a doctor, trained in this procedure, locates a "trigger point" (knot) in a muscle and injects it with a 2% solution of lydocane.

The "trigger point" is located by palpation and the doctor does not usually know exactly where the knot is. You will feel it when he hits it.

There are quite a few resources on the web to check also use WAIS and Gopher servers to pull up info Search on neuropathy and sciatic as keywords. Most sciatic pain is caused by something irritating the nerve be it a disk tumor or some disease process a disk can cause very localized and specific leg pain depending on where the nerve is in reference to the disk, bulge or herniation, My sciatica seems to change locations from time to time so i think there is no concrete symtoms that say its a disk and not some other cause
