| Back Pain Exercises Helped Me! |
|
Question:
Yesterday I had severe back pain
to the point of being not able to walk.
Then I went to webmd.com and read that
light exercise of the lower back leads to faster
recovery than only bed rest. I tried
some of the exercises they suggested, and
then went to the gym and did a light
workout today.
Now I hardly feel any pain at all and
I'm walking about normally!
Apparently, light exercise of the lower
back really DOES help recovery! Has anyone had similar experiences?
Answer:
Back pain is often attributed to stress and not necessarily any
structural problems in your back.
used to think I had back problems because it was genetic. My brother has
them, my father has them and I have them. Looking back on it, I realized
all three of us are a bunch of worry warts. Also, my back pains were directly
related to how stressed out I was.
A good friend of mine has a degenerative disk or two in his
back. He was doing fine and then found out he was getting laid off.
His back mysteriously went out on him. Incredible spasms, enormous pain a
nd he was stuck in bed. He didn't do anything physical to stress out his
back. He's also read the book and learned that his back pains are not
because of the strucutural problems in his back but because of stress.
This probably doesn't apply to everyone's back problems but I know quite
a few people now who can swear by it. My back has never caused me problems
since.
For a quick stretch remedy, you might try hugging your knees to your
chest. Positionally, sleeping on your back with a pillow under your knees
should help - both help the lumbar spine get more flexion.
