| Chiropractor Help with Back Pain During Pregnancy? |
|
Question:
I'm currently 30 weeks along. At night I have lower back pain and pain
in my hips. The pain in my hips seems to be due to my lower back,
maybe nerves getting pinched. I sleep with pillows for support, but
it doesn't help. Sometimes I can massage my lower back and get
some relief or find a good position for my lower back to help with the
hip pain, but usually not.
Someone suggested to me that I see a chiropractor for my lower
back to see if that helped. I would like to hear from anyone who
saw a chiropractor during pregnancy. I want to know if it helped,
made no difference or if it made things worse. Also, if you saw
one during pregnancy, how did you go about finding one who was
experienced in treating pregnant women.
Answer:
I went to a chiropractor early on in my pregnancy. I am having the same
type of
pain and I am only at 26wks. I generally opt for a massage first because it
relaxes more of the muscles and tendons in the back.
Ask your OB or Midwife for a referral to chiro's in your area that do
pregnant women. I am going to be adjusted soon because of pelvic pains ugh
and also to make sure my back is alligned for labor.
I saw a chiropractor in my last pregnancy for sciatica. I could barely walk
when I went to see him, and after two adjustments I had no further pain. I am
seeing him regularly for this pregnacny on roughly the same schedule as I see
the OB. It has been very helpful so far in aboidin the various discomforts I
had in other pregnancies. My midwife recommended this chiropractor, but I
think most of them would do adjustments for pregnant women.
My sister saw a chiro for the last 4 months of her pregnancy with her younger son
because of problems related to a car accident, not the pregnancy. She found
that the waddle from painful hips that she'd developed with each pregnancy was
significantly reduced from having her hips adjusted. It did not hurt, either she said.
She was referred to the chiro by her GP and he was aware that she was pregnant.
I think most chiros will really encourage you to be adjusted during
pregnancy -- but then again, I think most chiros will push you to be
adjusted no matter what!
