MSM for low back pain?
Question:
I have been in pain for two years. I have tried everything. In fact I just had ten Botox trigger point injections which seemed to have made me worse.

I take medications to help the pain that upset my stomach. I take medication to help my stomach because of the pain meds. None of the meds do a lot for the pain.

Someone suggested I try MSM. I wondered if it was safe. Any side effects? Has anyone had luck with MSM?

Answer:

Yes - MSM plus Vitamin C has helped me with pain and flexibility. It helps with muscle pain but doesn't do diddly for nerve pain. I took 3 grams MSM and 1.5 grams C daily. ( 3000 mg and 1500 mg. respectively).

You should give Neurontin a trial. It's not like you'll have dependency issues or anything. It really helps me. Like with everything Neurontin really works super for some of us with FM but doesn't work for others. It's a worthy thing to try.

1500 mg MSM a day is good. 2:1 on the MSM and C is good too. You'll be extra achy the first few days some people for a week or more. My detox time was only 4 days so I was lucky. Then when that's thru it's a noticible improvement with yer muscles. Unless MSM doesn't work for you, then it's noticibly nothing at all happening. Being as MSM and C isn't really expensive its a worthwhile try, anyway. Years ago I was able to sit on the floor and actually pick up my then 2 year old son without pain. That was a terrific result.

If you get a bit of an acid stomach cut back the Vitamin C. The C helps in boosting the effectiveness of the MSM but it's not crucial if you get acidic tummy. And Mylicon drops or any tummy OTC with simethicone if you develop gassiness from the MSM.
