injuries at work? |

Question:
A friend of mine suffered a back injury whilst at work and is currently in a
different workplace doing rehabilitation. She was told by her rehab
counsellor that the most money she's going to be able to get as compensation
for her injury is $5 - 10 thousand. She still experiences pain and is still
doing rehab. I don't think she has yet spoken to her solicitor about
compensation but $10 000 seems a little low for a permanent back injury
suffered at work. Is this how it is nowadays?
Answer:
Why on earth is your "friend" relying on a re-hab counsellor for
information on compo? Would they also rely on the same person for
brain surgery? Why not, a RE-HAB councillor is equally qualified for
both!
I have seen this sort of thing before. Insurance companies, including
(or specially) Workcover know to the $ the value of each injury and
offer the correct amount immediately. With a solicitor they *might*
get some $500 more and a bill for $3000. Insurance companies have all
pay outs neatly classified per injury and the level thereof and what
are "industry standards".
A pay out between 5 -> 10K pay out for a BACK injury certainly isn't a
"permanent" injury, so much is sure. Too many people try to SCAM
insurance companies and a back injury is the most common one for a
scam
