Question:
I've had Rheumatoid arthritis for several years now but lately I'm
having a great deal of pain in my right leg and hip which is causing
problems when I walk and sleeping. Due to a couple of other illness
right after moving to a new state I haven't seen a new doctor for my
arthritis yet.
My father thinks my problem is due to my back and
that is is causing my leg. He had a term for it but I forgot it.I
have to use a cane a lot of the time.Has anyo one else come across
this?
Answer:
I am having similar problems. I had a total hip replacement in
my right hip 8 years or so ago and have had no trouble up to now. I know I
have severe degeneration in my third and fourth vertebrae and have had nerve
type pains in my right thigh for some years. They have suddenly become much
worse and I felt pain travel from my thigh u-p into my groin. Now it is
difficult to walk and I am scared. I am wondering if it is my back
or (hopefully NOT my hip joint). Do you still have your own hip or a
replacement? Please let me know how you get on and what eventuates. Try and
find a good specialist in your new area as it sound as if like me you need
some help.
Does this pain increase when you lie on that side? Bursitis can cause a
similar pain, some swelling and heat on the side of the hip; not at the hip
bone but, lower at the bendy part.
Sacroiliitis perhaps? This is an inflammation of the joints that hold your hip to your
pelvis in the back. They are located kinda on the top edge of your bum. If
these areas (one or both) get too swollen they can impinge on the nerves that
run down the back side of your legs causing lotsa pain especially during weight
bearing movement..
Obviously, you need to see a doctor (preferably an RD) to have a diagnosis of
this pain. I would urge you to see someone
fairly soon so that you can get some treatment just for your own comfort, not
to mention that something could be eroding in there.
