Back And Shoulder Pain
Question:
I do recreational swimming 3 times per week. I have recently experienced shoulder and back pain. I`ve been told that my stiff upper back is causing my lower back pain and that weak upper back muscles causes my shoulder pain. Is there anyone out there experiencing the same problem or anyone who can help?

Answer:

It is very likely that swimming is affecting your muscles. I myself experience stiffness and soreness. The shoulders and back muscles are where most of your power should come from, particularly in butterfly. I suggest, and this helps me a lot, that you do stretches before training. Talk to your coach if you have one, and find out which stretches would be best for your specific area. I usually stretch for fifteen minutes to half an hour before my training, you will have to find a routing that matches your training schedule.
