Question:
My dad is constantly in pain. A few
years ago, he was working on a wooden
slide set for a kid when one of the
2 by 4's came crashing down and hit
him in the thigh and the pain just
surged from there.
He is now considered disabled and
lives in pain. (taking Darvecent sp?)
He goes to the doctor once in a while
but it seems it is not doing him any
good. He gets worse everyday and wants
to go back to work but is in too bad
of a shape.
My question to you is: Do you all
know of any good home remedies for
herniated disks? I mean to relieve
some pain. He has tried magnets, heating
pads and massage pads. Nothing seems
to work. I am getting scared seeing
my dad slip into such pain like this...
he is only 48. Any help would be appreciated.
Answer:
Some sort of surgery might be necessary.
Each case is different from the other
one. I have had 2 laminectomies with
the disc area, that is bulging being
shaved off. The first was from just
everyday use. The second one an occupational
injury that reinjured the area. I
had the second surgery and it too
did no good for me.
I now face a fusion surgery this fall
to help relieve the pain. Some advice.
Keep the weight down as much as possible.
try to strengthen the leg, stomach
and back muscles as much as within
the limitations. When the pain is really
severe get him to lie on the floor
with his back flat and his legs from
the knees to the feet up in some sort
of chair or ottoman in a Z formation
to relieve some of the pain.
You might also try very gentle pressure
by holding the affected leg and gently,
ever so gently pulling his leg literally
from his foot to act as a home made
traction help. I hope these help you
all. I do understand pain and drugs
are not always the answer, one last
thing ask his doctor to try Neurontinin.
It is extremely good for leg pain
from the hip to the foot and has helped
me to survive very well
