Very Odd Back/Abdominal Pain

Question:
I need some help from someone has experience/training in the neurological system.

Within the last week or two, I've had horrible pain in my lower back. It started in the small of my back. Then it spread to my hips, worse in my left hip. By then, the left hip was hurting enough it was hard to walk.

Last night, I was trying to scoot up in bed and the entire lower back and the entire buttock area started hurting like hell. It led to terrible electrical pains shooting down the back of both legs. It was a LOT worse that the worst pain that comes during an EMG.

I just got up from one of my sleeps and every time I roused up, I would have all the pain, but less painful in my legs. Every time I stretch, sneeze, cough, etc. that pain happens all over again.

I don't get scared at much (just annoyed) but this is scaring the begeebies out of me. I sure don't need to get unable to walk and take moderate care of myself.

Somebody, this time will just anybody convince me that it's AIMH. I'd rather be a hypochondriac than unable to walk. I'm scared. help, please??

Answer:

If I'm not mistaken, this is a pretty good indication that the sciatic nerve(s) are being interfered with, i.e., shooting electrical pain down the back of the leg(s). You might have twisted funny somehow and something in the spine is now misplaced and putting pressure on the nerve(s). I'd check with a chiropractor, if you're inclined toward that sort of thing.

To me, the fact that it came on suddenly, suggests that it's not a "lesion" in the sense of a tumor or something like that, but more likely something you might have done while sleeping or simply picking up something, etc. A chiro would probably be a lot cheaper than an MRI and such and conventional docs seem to like to hurry and suggest surgery, etc., when moist heat, stretching and a chiro adjustment might do the trick.
